ECO EDVENTURES youth summer program

ECO Edventures offers hands-on programs that get people outdoors and uses inquiry-based learning about ecosystems in their own community. The ECO Edventures learning environment allows for significant team-building opportunities, encouraging each student to explore and grow their own leadership lens.

***Due to COVID-19, ECO Edventures has been modified for 2021 to provide a socially distant, small group experience. All summer education programs are in an outdoor environment where students can discover and learn through hiking, activities, field technology, and play. Students will learn science topics while they explore our local ecosystem and discover the diversity of nature.

Our 2021 summer programs are for grades 1 and up and will be offered on the following dates:

  • Week 1: June 7-11 8:30-3:30

  • Week 2: June 14-18 8:30-3:30

  • Week 3: June 21-25 8:30-3:30

Registration fee:

$120/week early bird pricing through April 11

$150/week after April 11

$30 discount available for siblings.

ECO provides curriculum and leads programming aimed at engaging youth in STEM subjects through project and place-based learning, which uses innovative instructional approaches that enable student agency, boost access and opportunity, and prioritize deeper learning by actively exploring solutions to real-world problems in our community . ECO is currently partnering with the Boardman Local School District to provide project and place-based learning opportunities to science students in 5th-8th grades.

Want to explore some of the more secluded and less-visited areas of the Mahoning River Valley? Come on out for a hike with ECO to photograph and document the plants and animals that populate these wild places for the sake of science and research.

To give you an example of a few activities we might do on our hike:

-measure, ID and document the largest species of trees
-setting up game cameras and scouting new sites that show animal activity
-photographing birds, insects, flowers and plants
-assessing stream habitat through observations and sampling

All the information and data gathered will be utilized by local conservationists and uploaded to iNaturalist. iNaturalist is a fun, interactive website and app that connects everyday people to researchers and their projects locally, regionally and internationally. The iNaturalist app only requires that you take some identifying photos of plants, animals, or insects.
